The Highlands of Scotland, and Lochaber in particular, offers unending opportunities for your holiday enjoyment, all set in the midst of some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery in the world. Our suggestions below are only a few of the less energetic things to do with the exception of Ben Nevis which, undoubtedly, is the UK's biggest attraction.
Climb Ben Nevis (4406'). You will have to walk all they way up (and down again).
Visit Eilean Donan Castle. The most romantic and photographed in the world?
The Nevis Range mountain gondola. Whisking you to 2150ft with breathtaking views of the Great Glen, Ben Nevis and surrounding areas.
Discover the Caledonian Canal and Neptune's Staircase and watch the yachts glide past. One of the most fascinating waterways in Europe. Completed in 1822 by Thomas Telford.
Enjoy a guided tour around the 174 year old Ben Nevis whisky distillery. 'Take a dram' and savour Uisge beatha - the water of life.
Explore the ruin of Old Inverlochy Castle, the site of The Battle of Inverlochy in 1645.
Walk through the Glen Nevis gorge where the river cascades and tumbles on its way to the sea. Doubtless you will meet a few of our famous highland cattle.
Experience the magic of a Highland Games. Join in if you feel inclined. Toss the caber (it's only a small telegraph pole). You might even discover what is really worn beneath the kilt!
Visit the Treasures of the Earth exhibition. This stunning display features one of the world's great collections of gemstones, crystals and fossils.
Cruise Loch Shiel or Loch Linnhe in the company of friendly and knowledgeable local crews, with live commentary on the history and wildlife of this beautiful region. There cannot be better locations to look for Eagles than Loch Shiel, or for seals than Loch Linnhe.
Ride Harry Potter's "Hogwarts Express". One of the great railway journeys of the world, it passes the highest mountain in Britain (Ben Nevis), the most westerly mainland railway station (Arisaig), the deepest freshwater loch in Britain (Loch Morar), the shortest river in Britain (River Morar) and arrives next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe - Loch Nevis.
